Perry Marshalls Greed?

Perry's Greed

An email from Perry Marshall...

Recently I spoke at an event where numerous people asked me to meet with them, have lunch, etc. I responded: Sorry, no free lunch meetings - if you want to meet with me you need to pay my hourly fee.

I mentioned this in an email and got this reply from Dennis:
=====================================================================================

Perry

I love your stuff, you are obviously a very talented online marketer. In addition I bet your a good person, I don't know but I get the feeling you are. However one thing really bothered me that you said in your newsletter dated Tuesday October 28th.

As far as I can deduct you where part of a program that went late into the night that people paid for and after it was over several people wanted to take you to lunch etc, to pick your brain. You response was sure, just pay me my hourly rate. Now I'm all for people getting paid for there time, God knows if you say high to a lawyer your going to get a bill. Wlth that in mind there is such a thing as going to far. It's called GREED. It's what the me generation did to this countries economy today. It's the reason our economy is in such a mess.

I have been here for 58 years and have met many successful people, everyone of these people that I have asked to take to lunch and chat never charged me a dime. And myself being a very successful sales person earning over $100 K per year since 1974 have always given freely to others who asked. My opinion regaring your reponse to a request to do lunch was not being a smart business person, it was greed with a capital G. Come on, lets get real here if this kind of greed does not stop this country is headed for the dumpster.

Can you imagagine having to pay everyone who you asked for advice ? Why not put a hold on the greed and give a little back without getting paid for it. Even the blood sucking lawyers do probono work, even high priced doctors volunteer there skill to help people who can't afford medical care. Even old John D Rockefeller realised his greed and started giving his money away. Then theres Perry Marshall he won't go to lunch with eager students and share his knowledge without getting paid. You can rationalize all you want, but your response was arrogant and greedy. Let me summarise, what you did was Bull Shit.

Dennis
=====================================================================================

This was my reply to Dennis:

Dennis,

Thanks for your note and I can appreciate how my comment made you feel. Yes if someone told me 20 years ago I'd be charging people $700 for lunch and turning away people asking for help, I might have felt the same way as you. As you wrote your email I think you felt more and more angry about it all the time.

My wife read your email and said, "Perry, this guy apparently doesn't know how many people want to take you to lunch."

Dennis, I have over 100,000 people on my email list. You have no idea how many people email my office and ask questions - hundreds and hundreds every month. I could EASILY spend all day dispensing free advice. The demand for it it ENDLESS. I could spend every single breakfast, lunch and dinner time slot dispensing free advice and the line would never stop.

At the meeting, had I responded to all those requests I would've been out to lunch every day this week dispensing free advice. Remember: I'm not a salesman. I'm a consultant. Advice, not widgets, is what I sell. When you were a salesman you didn't give away your goods for free and you didn't feel guilty if they expected you to and you wouldn't feel guilty for saying no.

There are several reasons why I don't dispense free advice:

-It would be unfair to those who pay for it, and there are many who do

-People almost NEVER act on free advice, especially if it requires them to do something uncomfortable - so what's the point in dispensing it?

-If people want free information there are hundreds of pages of free articles and MP3's on my website and it's good stuff

-If I gave away my knowledge I would not be able to be generous to those who truly are in need.

You accuse me of being greedy and not being generous. You do not know that. You do not know me at all. You have no business making such judgments. You do not know how many people and/or organizations I DO give free advice to. You do not know who or what I give my money to and it's none of your business anyway.

Just know this: If I gave away free advice I would have no money to give to AIDS orphans in Africa.

So given that I have people lined up to pay me money (for example if you want a 1 day consultation it has to be booked 1-3 months in advance; phone consults are booked 2-4 weeks in advance) why should I allow people to cut in line and pay nothing?

Would that be right?

Finally, most of the questions people would ask me are already answered on my website or in my products. Most of the business ideas people pitch me with are a waste of time. People who have not read my books or website first usually wouldn't understand the answer if I gave it to them.

I am known all around the world for my expertise and my time is valuable. I am a STEWARD of my time and I am responsible before God for how I use it. To give it away indiscriminately would be irresponsible and wasteful.

I will give my time to people who earn it and that is why I am then able to be generous with people who need it. Hungry children in Africa need help more than well-fed Americans who are trying to solve their business problems. If they want free advice, they can ask someone else.

When people pay for my time, they get value. In life you usually get what you pay for, and when you pay me $725 an hour you get your money's worth. My job is to deliver that value and make sure that knowledge is put to use for maximal effect to ALL involved - my customers, myself, and the causes that are dear to my heart.

Sincerely,

Perry Marshall

Get Rich Fast?...or Get Rich Slow?

One of the biggest complaints I hear today is about all the 'get rich fast' scams on the Internet. Now I'm sure you've heard about them, or read about them, or maybe you've even laid out your hard earned cash to claim your riches. And you try it for a short while, with little or no results, you stop doing it, and now it has just become a 'scam' in your mind. Of course you'll share these thoughts with anyone that will listen.

With the incredible speed in which everything happens in today's world, I'm here to tell you that, you can get rich faster then ever before, ethically and honestly. Let's look at a couple of examples...

Mark Zuckerberg: launched Facebook from his Harvard dorm room on February 4, 2004. He then dropped out of Harvard and at the age of 23, his net worth is 1.5 Billion. That's FAST!

Mark Cuban: In 1995, Cuban and fellow Indiana University alumnus Todd Wagner started Audionet. It eventually became Broadcast.com in 1998. In 1999 they sold it to Yahoo for $5.9 billion in Yahoo! stock. That's FAST!

And of course that's just a couple of examples, I'm sure you've heard of many more as well.

So just because an opportunity claims that you can 'get rich quick' don't immediately discount its validity. I'm not saying for you to just join in blind faith, you have be comfortable with what ever you are marketing, so you have to do your due diligence in your research, before you join or associate yourself with any company.

So why do so many get labeled as 'scams'? While some are, there are many legitimate opportunities out there that are not...so let's take an honest look at why they seemingly fail and get labeled as 'scams'.

Well...let's look at the real reasons why the program you joined didn't work. For most of the opportunities out there, there are people making a lot of money working with the same company, and using the exact same program, products, strategies and the step by step process laid out. So we can honestly say that...the reason you are failing is not because of the company, it's not the product, it's not the compensation plan, it's not the system. So the only thing it can be...if you're being honest with yourself...is YOU.

***Most people will join because of YOU, the person or leader you are, your reputation, and how you can help them... not because of your company or product***

The fact of the matter is really very simple and straight forward. The main reason you fail to make a lot of money fast is YOU...period. It all starts and end with YOU.

One of the most life changing moments I had was when I heard T. Harv Ecker say 'You not only have to be in the right place at the right time, YOU have to be the RIGHT person, in the right place, at the right time!'

Think about that for a minute. You have to develop, educate, learn and grow as a person and a leader, and become the best you can be, before you can ever hope to start making money, and building yourself a successful business.

Once you realize this concept, and this concept alone, you will never struggle in any area of you life again.

Follow the Problems for Online Success

A well known catch phrase from a popular movie is “follow the money.” For Internet marketing, the best advice is “follow the problem.” The most effective online products are those that address problems.

How to break into Internet marketing. How to lose weight. How to avoid foreclosure in a down market. These are problems that drive people to search engines desperately looking for answers. How do you know what people want and need to know?

You have to research and listen into the online conversations in your niche. Start with keyword research for your topic. Check in with Google Labs and find out what the trend of online interest is based on up to the minute searches. Over days or weeks, you can see when the trend shifts and a new hot topic rises.

Another expanded Google tool, the Google Talk Labs, lets you get involved in conversations about trend topics. You have a chance to interact and possibly influence the conversation. At the same time, you want to drop into several discussion forums that focus on your niche.

Don’t be a lurker, be involved. You can use a different name - just make sure that you contribute to the conversation. Nothing will get you barred from a forum faster than showing up with a sales pitch instead of being a participant.

Once you make several posts and join the conversation, then you earn the right to offer suggestions or recommendations. That’s another reason why you want to use a name other than your own name so that you aren’t obviously recommending your own site. Become an expert in your chosen niche market and you will have people eager to follow you, and get their wallets out to purchase the products and services that you recommend.

When you get a hint of a problem from comments in the forum, be bold and ask, “Does anybody have a good resource for how to . . . ” If no one has a suggestion, there’s a product waiting for you to develop or find in places like ClickBank or Commission Junction.

Remember, you don’t have to develop you own products once you find a problem that needs solving. You can find affiliate programs from the above mentioned. You can also find and purchase re-sell rights to products that allow you to re-sell them and keep 100% of the profits.

You can also get a feel for problems by scanning major blogs like Technorati and Boing Boing. Subscribe to blogs that are popular with followers of your niche interest. Chances are they will comment on those blogs.

If you find that there’s a product to address the problem, take a look at it. What can you do to improve, simplify, expand or add a new twist to that answer? Is it a high priced product? Then you need to develop something at a slightly lower price point.

Is it too cheap and vague? That’s your cue to add more substance, get endorsements from reviewers and position your product as the premium solution. Millions are made online by solving simple problems where the public is using the ‘net to find a solution.

Web Video University Course Review

The course, Web Video University by Dave Kaminski claims to have you creating professional web videos, that produce more sales, in 4 weeks or less, with no experience required. Even if you don't own a video camera! Well I'd like to share my results with you...and remember this when your reading, I have absolutely Zero experience in creating videos online.

Dave teaches everything in video tutorials, which is just like getting 1 on 1 professional, personalized training. The great thing, there are no class rooms, no traveling...you can learn from the comfort of your own home, anytime you want...day or night. Dave also gives you email access to answer any questions along the way.

Only 2 weeks through the course and I have already made my first video, without my own camera, without previous experience. Just following along, step by step with Dave. I would watch Dave explain a lesson, I would pause it, then I'd go to my video project and implement what I just learned, it was very easy and rewarding!

It's my 1st one, but it's not to bad I must say. You can view it at the end of this post

I found that Dave really puts some crazy technical terms,(terms I've never heard of before) in a way that anyone, and I mean anyone, can understand. He also has a great resource section at the end of each unit, where you can go get the tools required to practice and carry out what was just taught.

No only does Dave show you how to create a web video, but he also teaches you the techniques that make a web video a sales machine. He shares the insider tips and secrets of successful videos. From the lighting, backgrounds, special effects, length of scenes and so much more I can't possibly tell you all of it in this review.

I know I've looked into pricing to have someone create a video for my sites, ranging from $2000 - $6000...for a single video! There's no way everyone can afford that, so I went looking for an alternative. Dave offers 2 courses, the Basic & the Premium. With both you'll also receive...the following bonus items: 13 animated video backgrounds from MotionLoops.com, 75 royalty-free music tracks and 2,500 royalty-free sound effects. Together, these bonus items are worth $438.55. Prices for the Basic and Premium are listed at the end of this post.

I don't write reviews or endorse every product I come across or even use everyday, but I can honestly tell you that the Web Video University Course is worth several thousands of dollars, just for the material and tools, not to mention the thousands in added sales you'll be getting when you put them into practice on your own website or blog.

I really can't believe how inexpensive it is for the value Dave gives you. I would highly recommend this course, without hesitation or regrets.

I know that web videos are the hottest thing on the Internet right now, and will only increase in the future. Check out some of these stats:

- An estimated 1 billion dollars will be spent on video ads in this year. By 2011, that number will climb to at least 4.3 billion dollars.

- 65% of online surfers will view video advertisements to their completion (less than 20% read "text only" sites to completion).

- 68% of people who watch online videos, will in turn, pass links for these videos onto their friends...turning them into viral traffic machines.

- the cost to have a web commercial professionally created for your site now averages between $2,000-$3000…per minute! No kidding.

If I had to tell you about any cons with the course...it would be this. I wish there was a text copy or PDF copy for easy and quick reference. The video tutorials are great, but I found that if I just wanted to go directly to a section, a text version would be the easiest and quickest way to do this. I'm sure it could be included as an add on feature to original course, at a slight upcharge.

In my search for a course designed to teach anyone, regardless of experience, how to make their own, profit producing web videos, I found Web Video University is first on my list. Thanks Dave for a great product, at an affordable price.
Basic Course $199
Premium Course $397

Review on 'Clic Website Sales Leads System' by Gerry Black

Reviewed by Ron Richardson - Editor - Business Opportunity Newsletter

I have finished reading Gerry Black's eBook, 'CLIC Website Sales Leads System' Gerry Black is a field proven American Writers and Artists trained copywriter and also has a successful 20-year sales and marketing career.

A report he wrote called “The #1 Website Mistake That Could be Costing You Clients” will be featured in an upcoming book by best-selling author Bob Bly – the man McGraw-Hill calls "America's top copywriter."

I have read 100's of eBooks over the years, and not always, but usually learn something from each and every one...including this one. Gerry show's you, in 4 easy steps, how to attract more website visitors, and convert more of them to paying lifetime customers.

I found that Gerry's writing style, and explanation of strategies, very easy to understand, and more importantly, easy to implement. Starting off with the essential basics for a successful site, and offering answers to the common mistakes that people make.

In chapter 3, 'What Your Web Visitors Want' Gerry tells you the 7 questions your web visitors need answers to when they visit your site. I found that I can build a successful converting site, or squeeze page using only this chapter. From my headline to the rest of my sales copy just by answering those 7 questions.

The eBook also digs into some SEO, creating headlines that will grab you readers attention and ad copies that hold their attention. Also why your company, product or service is not as important as what benefits it will produce for your readers, and how to convey them to your readers.

I found this a very easy and enjoyable read. Although some of what I read, I already practice, I still learned some great strategies that I'm implementing now.

Gerry puts it in simple terms that are easy to understand, even for a newbie, and easy to implement. But no matter where you are in your online marketing career, 'newbie' to 'expert,' you will learn some valuable tips and strategies that will help.

Even if your promoting an affiliate program, you can use these strategies to build a loyal list of future life time customers.

In short, I would highly recommend this system to anyone wishing to build a high converting customer focused website, or those that wish to improve their current site.

It really is a proven 4 step system, that anyone can read in about an hour, and start implementing as soon as their done reading.

If you're tired of your website sucking money out of your pockets, and want to turn it into a automated sales person that produces results, then 'Clic Website Sales Leads System' is a must read. It should be in every serious online marketers resource tool box.
